The Types Of Central Heating System

A Central Heating System is being used in houses and business premises to protect the people living/working there from the extreme cold conditions since the ancient Greek times. However, the difference being that the methods adopted at that time were old and historic whereas today’s methods use latest technology and an ease of operation while using these systems. This system provides the warmth to the whole interior of a building or a portion of building from one point to various other rooms. It can be combined with other systems to provide certain additional advantages like ventilation, heating and air conditioning. When it is combined with these other services, it can be termed as HVAC (Heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system.

The Central Heating System differs from Local Heating System in that heat generation occurs in one place, such as a furnace room in a house in central heating. From that room, the heat should be transferred to the other rooms. However, in local heating, a local heating mechanism is provided in each and every room such as the usage of room heaters. The most common method of heat generation is through the burning of fossil fuels like coal and then the heat can be transferred to the other rooms with the help of a duct or pipe by forced air.

The various types of Centralized Heating Systems that are used in household or in various business industries can be read under the following heads:-

Water Circulation: A water circulation is a kind of Central Heating System which is quite in fashion in the European Countries. In this type, water is heated in one room and then this hot water is carried through pumps all through the building by using the dedicated wall panels that ultimately transmits a small amount of the heat generated to the surrounding environment.

Electric Resistance Heating: An Electric resistance heating system requires a unit that is capable of producing heat while plugged in the electric supply of a household. The electricity is then supplied to that heating unit which converts it to heat and this heat is supplied into the home’s ventilation system to provide warmth to the other rooms attached to it.

Steam Boilers: This Central Heating System requires the conventional method of producing heat, i.e., use oil or gas that is burned to heat water in a tank till the time it boils and gives of steam. This steam is then transferred to the home radiators which transfer the heat originating from the vapor to the air.  

Active Solar Heating: Active solar heating requires specialized glass panels that are used to capture the sunlight (solar energy) and then is transferred to a system that is used to heat air and this heated air is eventually distributed through the ventilation system using fans.

Gravity Fed Central Heating System: In this central heating system, a boiler is use to heat the water stored in a tank and then this heated water is supplied through the radiators for the purpose of central heating. There are certain things that should be kept in mind while using this heating system, like the water tanks ensure that there is space for the expansion of water. Thus, this system sometimes become uneconomical to use.
