Long distance relationships - how do you make them work?
Everything was going well for me until my girlfriend moved to Canada. I had never thought to use online chat before but if I was going to chat to her at all then I needed to find an answer to the problem of distance. I’m not a rich man and therefore can’t afford pricey overseas phone bills – if you even mention the word roaming to me I come out in hives. No, online chat services seemed like the best thing for me in my position, a cheap method of instant and constant communication with my girlfriend.
While she was living here with me in the UK I never chatted to her enough. Just a little bit more chat on my behalf and she would have felt wanted; ever woman has a desire to feel special and all it takes is for their boyfriends or husbands to chat to them and show an interest in their lives. Even online chat is a good substitute when the tow of you aren’t together in person, yet it needs to be balanced with the personal touch as well else the lady think there is something untoward going on behind her back.
Online chat isn’t the only way to show affection and exercise the romantic bones in your body. Sending e-cards and leaving thoughtful links on your partners profile using sites such as Badoo, Facebook and Twitter. With these, I can tell her how much I love her online without having to chat at all. Just leaving a YouTube link to our special song will speak volumes. At least it will make it a lot more difficult for her to full in love with some Mountie beefcake who hunts elk and drives a flatbed truck in his spare time.
Of course, what if the worst-case scenario happens and she decides to break up with me once she has got to Canada? I’ll no longer want to chat; I will need to vex, vent and venerate about her, sobbing secretly while I wax lyrical about. For a long time I will carry the burden of my heartbreak, but inevitably I will get over it and want to chat again. By that point, online chat will have really started to help, as I can get myself out on the dating scene and chat to any other girls I like who DON’T live in Canada!
