Moms are entering the blogosphere in droves.

The days of thinking that 4th graders know more about computers and the Internet than their Moms,The Growing Power of Women Online Articles is quickly coming to an end. Moms are not only online, but they are becoming one of the most powerful groups for word-of-mouth marketing largely thanks to the blogosphere.

According to eMarketer.com, Mom’s are mostly responible for household purchases (approximately $2 trillion annually). Now, that’s a lot of stuff. Of course, this number is overall, not just online sales, but still… WOW!

No wonder Moms are such a highly prized demographic for marketers, but this is only the half of their power.

Moms wield even more authority online because of their new found love for blogging. And if they aren’t blogging, they are reading blogs.

So why are blogs so important to Moms?

Simple.

When Moms find a source of information they can trust and rely upon, they tell others. So blogging is not only about social networking for women. The power of Moms online is word-of-mouth referrals.

Case in point, check out Cool Mom Picks.com. This blog provides information regarding the latest ideas and products for motherhood and parenting. Remember blogs are interactive, so you can add your two cents as well. Or you can go to Technorati.com or Blogher.org and do a search for “Moms Blogging” you might be surprised with the results.

I am so excited about the growing presence of Moms online for a couple of reasons: first, it’s nice to see women in general getting proper recognition in commerce, but more importantly, I believe that Moms, in particular, have an inherent BS detector genetically lodged in them.

All kidding aside, Moms have a sixth sense about their homes and families. As a group, they are astute at discerning good, worthwhile information. And when they find something they like, they want to tell all of their friends and family about it.

On the other hand, if they discover something not so good, they are not shy to post a detailed list of why something sucks.

Receiving a third-party recommendation from a Mom online has immediate credibility. Marketers understand the power of Moms and so should we all.

Moms may never understand the intricacies of a motherboard, but they understand word-of-mouth. And they love the the give and take that blogging naturally offers to its audience.
