First things First
The first thing that should be at the forefront of your mind when it comes to generating leads for your business, is to make sure you have a structured plan of attack. Know what type of focus you are trying to achieve with your prospecting and marketing.
Don’t Be Invisible
When working on the internet, it pays to advertise. More importantly, it pays to show your face. Get a Twitter account, make a Facebook page, register for a LiveJournal blog - do everything that you can to give your site, company and products as much publicity and exposure as you possibly can.
This doesn’t mean Spam. There is a way to properly promote your products or services without it being Spam. Having your product associated with spam-vertisements will ensure that not only will no one be interested in anything you have to say or offer, but you will also be hated by message boards and search engines alike.
Prospecting
Make sure your prospecting system stays active. Do not just hope that your current customer or prospect will give a word of mouth reference to their friends about your business, you should actively pursue potential prospects or customers. Some ways of prospecting are to offer your current customers additional savings if they refer your business to their friends and family; offer prospects special savings and rewards if they sign up at a certain time that you indicate; or have special prizes or rewards for both parties if they refer and then sign up together.
Ads
This is a lead generating system element that you might have to spend a little money on. Thankfully, most popular search engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask, etc) offer the option of ads that will not cost you an arm and a leg to use. This type of lead is one of the most important, because it is going to provide you with a lot of perspective customers that have actually researched keywords relevant to your genre of business and interest. This is an excellent way of attracting new prospects as well as customers.
Subscriber Lists
E-mail is free, easy to use, an excellent way of keeping up with your prospects or customers and a great way of attracting potential new ones. Again, this is not about spamming people to death until they give in and order your services or products. If used correctly, subscriber lists can be an excellent addition to your potential customer list, if used incorrectly it can destroy any good relations you might have had with your customers. Generally, if you spam people it will not only ensure that you will have no new customers, but also that no one will buy from you again.
