I've been a professional website designer for more years than I can count and have come to a few conclusions about new websites. Most fail. It's shocking, I know, but it's true. And the sad part is that many would be successful if they just paid attention to the details.

1. Cookie-cutter websites. Templates are so amazing because with a few clicks, you can have a great looking website. But, everyone has that same website! You have to know about them and you have to implement them if you want your website to have a chance online.   But don't worry, even the gurus are scrambling to catch up on this one. SEM is your basic marketing campaign.  Write a few optimized blog posts, write some decent content, and hang out in a few related forums.
