People ask me how they can use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to get their products and services on page 1 of Google within a day. I tell them SEO is the best tool for Internet marketing and generates long-term results. However, it does not satisfy our need for instant gratification. Here’s a real-world example showing why sometimes, good things take time.
A man starts a new job on Monday morning. He shows up early and the boss notices. He answers the phone on the first ring and the boss notices. He is nice to everybody and the boss notices. This happens week after week, month after month.
One day, the boss receives a letter from a happy client, praising the new employee. The boss is overjoyed. The boss gives this employee a promotion. His coworkers say “oh, the boss received a letter praising the new guy and that’s why he got the promotion.” That is not the reason. The new employee received the promotion because he shows up early, answers the phone on the first ring and treats everybody nice, every day. That’s why he received the promotion.
Maybe the letter was the trigger encouraging the boss to finally reward the employee. Maybe the boss was planning to give him the promotion anyway and the letter had no effect. Regardless, the employee worked hard and eventually received the promotion.
SEO works the same way. Let me present one of my successes. I have the #1 position out of 69 million results in Google when you search for “Sacramento it solutions.” See http://www.cameronparkcomputer.com/good_seo_takes_time.htmlfor more info. This did not happen overnight. I have written several articles both here and at other sites with the keyphrase "Sacramento it solutions." I've also learned that after you start a campaign to dominate a keyphrase, you have to stick with it for more than 30 days. It will take more than 30 days to acquire enough faith from Google and other search engines to place you at the top of a Search Results list.
Fat too often, people expect immediate gratification. SEO, and trust in general, do not work that way. Instant gratification does not work when you are building trust with a a prospect, coworker or lover. Instant gratification also does not work for SEO. Just like the employee who was great for months before receiving any praise, your SEO campaign has to be great before you can expect any results.

You can wait months for any visible SEO gains. This would happen if you are new to SEO and have no Google credibility. You start by posting to a blog or tweeting twice a day. Google may need months before finding you and then deciding you have authority in your field. If you have Google credibility, you may see results within days. The sooner you start your SEO campaign, the sooner you will enjoy visible results.
