Well, whatever is the answer to the above-mentioned questions, we do have to agree on the fact that Bruce Willis starrer Die Hard is one of the best action movies of all time, if not the best action movie of all time (For me, it is slightly behind John Wick Chapter 2).

Bruce Willis and company changed the dynamics of an action movie way back in 1988, and we had barely noticed. Well, at least, now we can notice.

A number of sequels and other action films have come out since the 1988 film “Die Hard,” but most of them have failed to match the virtuosity of it. It is one of the films that gets made once in a lifetime.

However, now we are here to speculate some of the facets which never manifested themselves on screen. Yes, we are here to talk about the fact that Ben Affleck had nearly joined his Armageddon co-star Bruce Willis in the Die Hard sequel.

In fact, Gone Girl actor was the favorite of Bruce Willis and others to portray the character Matt Farrell in the film “Live Free or Die Hard.”

It is a well-known fact that “Live Free or Die Hard” was not only a relatively bad Die Hard film, but it was also a deviation from some of the facets that had made the franchise a true pop culture icon. Now, you may ask, what are those facets? Well, to name just one, the entire story of the film panned out in several days, which brought down the pace of the film. It was a straight deviation from the tradition adopted by other films that saw them relaying a “Die Hard” story of just one day (which meant breathtaking pace).

The film saw John McClane working very closely with a computer genius named Matt Farrell (who was played by Justin Long in the film). However, you would be glad to know that Ben Affleck was the first choice to play the character.

If you now think that Ben Affleck’s persona is not quite suited to a computer hacker character, then I would be glad to inform you that “Live Free or Die Hard” was supposed to be completely different than what it turned out to be.

Instead of going head to head with a cyber-terrorist based in Washington, the film was originally planned to put John McClane in the jungle, and Matt Farrell was originally designed to be a hulky action hero, which would have surely complemented Affleck’s strength.

Talks regarding Die Hard have been there ever since the time Bruce Willis has appeared in a DieHard battery commercial. There are a lot of speculations doing the rounds on the internet, but nothing has been made official.
