The current state of online businesses is alarming. The rampant misuse and abuse of online platforms by unscrupulous subscribers are leading to the downfall of these businesses. Even if you are not directly involved, your association with such practices contributes to the demise of your own online business.
Every online newsletter I come across, including my own, is plagued by the same issue. Editors are forced to waste precious space reiterating and tightening rules due to the variety of abuses they suffer from unscrupulous subscribers. This is not a minor issue; it's a daily onslaught. The scale of this problem is so large that it can be equated to grand theft.
An editor's time is as valuable as anyone else's. Those who work traditional 9-5 jobs wouldn't dream of refusing payment for their time and effort. So why should ezine editors be any different? They spend countless hours handling administrative tasks, staying updated on their subject matter, conducting research, writing content, dealing with correspondence, scheduling ads, and ensuring the content is valuable to the readers.
Despite the hard work, editors are often bombarded with autoresponders, counter offers, and "vacation" replies. They deal with false email addresses that bounce back, free email addresses that exceed their limits and bounce back, and an overwhelming amount of spam. All of this clogs up their email accounts and robs them of their valuable time.
This misuse and abuse of online platforms are leading to the downfall of online businesses. If there is less free advertising available, businesses will either have to pay for all of it and risk going broke, or they'll never get to promote their business at all and still go broke. If editors are forced to spend all their time on administrative tasks, they'll never have time or space left for useful content, and businesses will never learn anything.
If you use autoresponder addresses, free addresses, or any other unprofessional practices, you've already labeled yourself as uncaring and unprofessional. Many editors are now banning these addresses, so you won't get their value and assistance anyway. In the end, you're only hurting yourself.
This misuse and abuse of online platforms need to stop. Various services on the internet are having to tighten up rules and policies in response to the level of abuse. If you don't do your part in stopping it, by acting responsibly and not allowing others to get away with it, then commerce on the Internet will be effectively outlawed and your business will be doomed.
