A Taste of the Exotic

Have you ever dreamed of living in far-away places?  Well, you can—right in your own home.  It’s all about decorating using accessories that gives you a taste of the exotic.

I’ve always enjoyed the Asian style.  I love the dark woods and clean lines.  The deep rich colors blended with golds.  You don’t have to spend a lot to get the ‘Far East’ feeling.  You can do it with accessories.  There are lamps that give you and ‘Asian’ feel.  You could use lanterns for that same ambiance.  Screens are great to get that feel.  You just need to make sure it has clean lines like shoji screens would.  You can find pictures, especially flowers, which give you that feel.  Think about orchids.  A live orchid would really round out your décor.  The same goes with French, African and any other exotic or far-away place that you can think of.

French décor uses lush fabrics like brocades, velvets and satins.  Deep purples, or reds, coupled with creams or beiges.  Fleur de lieu plaques or patterns would make great accents.  Beautiful crystal chandeliers or candleholders can accent that “Paris Apartment” feel perfectly.  With African décor, fabrics can be animal print or solid, vibrant colors.  Figurines and wall hangings will also give a “safari” feel to the room.  Throws and pillows can be used with any style you choose.  Just remember to use colors that compliment the style of décor.  Rugs come in all styles and colors.  Rugs can also give you the ‘feel’ you want.

Any room in the house can transport you to that special place. 

You see, you can decorate a room from top to bottom without spending a lot of cash.  The key is the right accessories and colors.
