Bankroll management is very important if you intend to make money out of playing poker and in order to do that you will need to learn to survive when it isn’t your day.
One of the golden rules in good bankroll management is you should never play in any poker game where the limits are high enough to seriously damage your bankroll. If there is a risk of losing all your poker money in one game,
then you are playing the wrong limits.
It is crucial to consider that you cannot do anything about bad beats or luck going against you in a game. There will be some days that the bad run of cards will just continue one after the other. This is exactly why you should be careful of your limits because no matter how good you think you are, you will never be able to counteract the misfortune that comes every player's way.
If you are a good poker player you would expect to show a profit in the long term. However, in order to do this you will have to absorb the periods where you will lose money. All good poker players lose money at some point throughout the year, they expect this to happen and their bankroll management accounts for this.
Some players will naturally want to take more risks with regards to their poker bankroll. They are happy to risk all in the hunt of a bigger bankroll in a short space of time. However, if you continue to play out of your limits there will be a day where things won’t go your way and you will become completely broke. Therefore it is very difficult to continue playing such tactics.
