Only the opaque stones are polished for cabochons and hence should not ideally reflect light, as cabochons are not faceted. Hence, they should appear less transparent than the original ones.

Example a tiger’s eyes marking will be easily seen in a bright light. A good quality gemstone cabochons when held against light, appears opalescent. The reflection of the light should seem three-dimensional.
