This is mainly done by the glass tube inside the heater which contains quartz which are resistant to heat. Some heaters do not contain this and as an alternate they uses halogen lamp. Nowadays mainly the material used for the filament manufacturing in the electric infrared heaters is tungsten wire. Sometimes it is also manufacture from the other materials such as alloys of elements like chromium or iron etc. but the tungsten filament heaters have great advantage over other aluminum filament heaters,
chromium filament heater and iron filament heater as they get heated quickly. As compare to the working of other heaters, in infrared heaters sometimes quartz tube is coated by the gold which helps to direct the infrared radiations on the substance which is to be heated and this is achieved by the principle of reflection of infrared rays. Other metals can be used instead of the gold but as compare to the IR reflectivity and oxidation resistance, gold is most efficient and has near about 95% IR reflectivity.There are various types of infrared heaters and each is different from the other because of the difference in the wave length. Short infrared wavelength heats up the filament more quickly and consumes less time to heat up the room.
