Embracing nature by presenting butterflies as gifts

One of the most fascinating sorcery of nature is the metamorphosis of butterflies from the wingless, timid caterpillar that blossoms into one of the most majestic insects of the world. With the unification of both science & bookish knowledge, parents are encouraging the children to participate & embrace nature in both entertaining & educational point of view. For this aspect, children are presented with butterflies as gifts which serve as an initiator for the metamorphosis cycle. However, the trend has recently branched out & nowadays worm farms for kids are also acceptable presents that can serve for both educational & entertainment purpose. Worms know how to wriggle their way & form an extensive network of labyrinths inside the soil & in return fertilize the soil with their droppings. So if your younglings are interested in participating in something that is unique yet very surreal, you can always choose in building a worm farm for them.

Before endeavoring the project, you must have a proficient knowledge about the construction theory which is enumerated as follows:

• Try to use a wooden container instead of a glass container. But if you’re interested for establishing this project for entertainment or science project, it’s wise to choose a skinny aquarium which would facilitate the process of keeping the worms on the outer ridge of the glass & prevent them from excavating the soil in the middle of the glass.
  
• Now add the soil in the container which should consist of the right proportion of garden soil & sand that would allow the worms to tunnel their way into the soil without eroding away the top layer. Also, the soil should be kept moist enough as well as it should be furnished with optimum sunlight & checked that it maintains a regulated temperature. Temperature is fundamental since worms are very sensitive to climate change & they would perish if there are extremities in the climatic conditions.
  
• For the warm comfortable soil, choose the mixture that ranges from shredded newspaper, cardboards, and any possible wastes from the garden. This would serve as an outstanding source for keeping the soil moist over time & would help to grow some of the bacteria & moulds upon which the worms can thrive.
  
• When it comes for choosing the worms, you’ve to selective about their breeding species & their size once they start to grow. For kid’s project, it would be reasonable if you pick the red worms which are available in the pet store. Or you can always shovel out some wiggly worms out the backyard & release them inside your customized worm farm.
  
• Daily nutrition is a must & therefore you should feed your worms daily. Be it meat, or any dairy products, just sprinkle the soil with some of the scraps & they’ll dig their way out & consume them.
