How are you at setting goals for yourself? You all know how important goal setting is. At least I assume you do! But there is one part in that you set goals for yourself, personal and professional.
And then there is that other piece which is the tough part and that is following through and actually doing what you 'said' you would do!
The one thing that I learned many years ago is the importance of breaking the goal down into small chunks. So often we set lofty goals for ourselves then get overwhelmed because they seem HUGE.
The other important thing I learned actually more recently is to work in 'sprints'. Take your project of the day, whether it is business or personal, and work in short sprints. Do this every single work day. Whether you are just at the beginning of growing your business or you are ready to take it to the next level, working in sprints will get you there faster.
Whether you realize it or not, you have habits that you do every single day. Think about your day. What time do you usually get up? Do you take a morning shower? Do you read the paper while eating breakfast? These are often things you just do automatically. They are your daily habits.
These habits may seem second nature. You have been living these habits for so long they are natural to you. Those are personal habits. What about your work habits? Do they move you forward to success? If not, it may be time to take a good honest look at how your daily working habits and make some changes if necessary. Good strong habits will move your business more than you might believe.
Take this new habit that you are working on for your next big project. Be sure you are only focusing on ONE thing. That may sound ridiculous when you have so many different projects going on (me too!) but trust me.
Hear me out here. Take that one project and work on it every single work day. I am not saying to work on it all day long or even for 5 hours. Even if you did 5, 10 or 20 minutes on it every single day you would be amazed at how much you can get done.
I was hesitant too. I thought I would never get all the things done that needed to get done but I have learned. My daily habit of working on one project even for short periods of time had me to the finish line faster than what I had done in the past.
I used to think I had to have hours set aside to work on something to completion. And finding 2, 3 or 4 hours or more in one day was really difficult. But if I can say, I will set aside 10 minutes and if later in the day I can set another 10 minutes, I know I will get that project done.
Know what your priorities are, create work habits around this. Do a little (or more) every single work day. Complete your task then move on to the other things that need to get done.
You will be amazed!
