This number can help to determine good and bad cardinal directions for a person. There are 8 Kua directions - 4 good and 4 bad. The good directions are: Sheng Chi (Success),Kua Number Explanation and Formula Articles TIen Yi (Health), Nien Yen (Love), and Fu Wei (Personal Growth). The bad directions are: Ho Hai (Failure), Ng Kwai (Five Ghosts), Luk Sart (Six Murders), and Cuet Ming (Total Loss). At the bottom of this article, you can find the formula to calculate your Kua.

Kua can be used to know which way to sit and sleep in your home. Try to make sure that you sit facing one of your favorable directions, and that you sleep with your head in one of your favorable directions. Your Kua number can also be used to know the 4 best directions for your entrance door, so that you bring the positive energy in each time you enter the home.

If the door faces a wrong direction, you can work on windows to fix it. In feng shui, windows are considered as doors for the positive Qi energy, which creates happiness. You can let the positive energy enter your home through a window in one of your 4 personal good cardinal directions. So, if your front door is facing the wrong way, you need to find your “happy window” and activate it.

How do you activate a happy window? Here’s how: Qi energy flows along with the flow of air and light, so you need to keep your “happy window” clean. If it’s a balcony door, remove all household clutter from there. Open this window as often as possible, so that the flow of air enters your home through it. You can also hang nice light curtains on this window. Traditional feng shui says that blinds cut the flow of Qi; if possible, don’t use blinds.

Make sure that this window isn’t in front of a mirror, so that the good energy isn’t reflected back by the mirror. Hang a crystal ball on the window to scatter the positive energy throughout the room. If possible, keep the door to this room open, so that Qi can move freely around your entire home. You can also hang a painting or calendar in red and gold opposite this window. Red and gold are the colors of good luck and wealth, which work as a bait for good energy.

Following is the formula to calculate your Kua number.

Example for women - born in 1983: Add the last two numbers of your year of birth: 8+3 = 11. If the result is a two-digit number, add these two digits until you get a single-digit number: 1+1 = 2. Add 5 to the result: 2 +5 = 7. In this case, Kua is 7. If the result is a two-digit number, add those two digits again until you get a single digit.

Example for men - born in 1973: Add the last two numbers of your year of birth: 7+3 = 10. If the result is a two-digit number, add these two digits until you get a single-digit number: 1+0 = 1. Subtract the result from 10. In this case, Kua number is 9. If the result is a two-digit number, add those two digits again until you get a single digit.
