If you're thinking of having sexual intercourse,Health Tips for Sexual Intercourse Articles you should familiarise with a few basics first. Having sex may imply number of different sexual acts, but it usually means sexual intercourse. In scientific terms, sexual intercourse (which is also referred to as copulation or coitus) is an act where male reproductive organ is inserted into female reproductive tract, either for reproduction or sexual pleasure.

Tips for Sexual Intercourse

* Physiological events, which include excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution, sum up the entire act of sexual intercourse.

* Sexual intercourse begins with both man and woman getting sexually excited. The act to make man or woman getting excited by one another for the sexual pursuit is referred to as foreplay. Foreplay involves kissing, cuddling and other sexual acts. Foreplay is the prelude to the penetrative sexual intercourse. Among other forms of penetrative sex are oral and anal.

* In the plateau stage, breathing becomes rapid and muscles begin to tense for penetrative sex.

* The vaginal penetrative sex complete when sperm cells from male’s reproductive organ are passed into female’s reproductive tract. It is also the fertilisation process, where semen containing male sperm cells unite/fertilise the female egg.

* The resolution stage is a refractory period of several minutes or few hours after the penetrative sex, during which man is incapable to have penetrative sex due to lack of arousal. There is no refractory period for woman, and she can become aroused at any point in the resolution stage.

* Contraceptives should be used to prevent fertilisation of female. Besides pregnancy, contraceptive such as condoms also protects one from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

How it Works

* Any form of penetrative sex should begin with foreplay. In foreplay, couple kiss/touch each other to get excited and lubricated for sex. Foreplay is a pleasurable part of sexual pursuit, which prepares couple for penetrative sex by tensing muscles and increasing heart rate.

* Male must have an erect penis and female's vagina should start releasing fluid to ease insertion. The glans at the head of the penis enlarges in males, while outer vagina contracts and the clitoris retract in females.

* After insertion, couple moves together, in a position whatever they feel is best for them.

* Sexual intercourse culminates and completes with an orgasm. Man or woman might have an orgasm anytime during sexual intercourse. Once sperm cells are released by man, penis loses erection and becomes limp.
