Different Motorcycle Accessories and their Uses

Motorcycle accessories are made to improve rider’s outfit and safety. Accessories serve as the fashion statement of the riders as well as protective gears to lessen damage during accidents. The following list enumerates the different motorcycle accessories and their uses:

• Helmet. Using helmet has been a mandatory requirement to many countries. It protects the rider’s head during impact. There are many types of helmets; some provide additional protection such as face shield against dirt and insects that can irritate the eyes.  When the rider is thrown in the air and lands on a hard surface, the outer layer or hard shell of the helmet spreads the impact over the whole area while the inner part usually made of polystyrene foam absorbs the energy so the skull and brain will have lesser impact.
• Jacket and Pants. Either in one piece or two piece suit. Jackets have heavy padding in the elbow, spine, and shoulder region. It is usually made of nylon, leather or Kevlar. Pants protect the lower extremities especially the legs against the heat of the engine. Jackets and pants protect the rider against weather elements since motorcycle don’t have hoods. Choose jacket and pants with bright colors to improve visibility.
• Boots. Worn by motorcycle riders and passengers to protect their feet and ankles. The boots should be tough, strong and moderately flexible with rigid soles. Oil-resistant boots with rubber-based merged soles have strong grip on the concrete and keep the rider's feet on the pegs. Boot’s heels should be low and wide to provide a firm base when standing with the bike.
• Gloves. Glove’s main purpose is to protect the wrist and fingers. It has gauntlets that protect the wrists and help shrink drafts when riding at colder climates.  Gloves are generally made of leather or Kevlar while some include carbon fiber knuckle protection.
