Once you have decided to play roller derby seriously,Roller Derby Names Articles one of the most important things to do is choosing a name for your team. Your team’s moniker can set you apart from the other roller derby teams and make it easy for your fans to cheer for you accordingly. And it can be a very confusing process to choose the right name, so here is a little something to help you in coming up with that perfect name.

1. Easy to remember: The name that you choose should be easy to remember. For that it has to be short and simple. Do not choose very complicated and long words – also make sure how you want your name to be pronounced. It should also be short enough to fit on your team jersey.

2. Identifies your team: The team name should be such that whenever it is heard, only your team members’ spring to mind. Also the individual names in the team should reflect your roller derby teams’ and your own individual character.

3. Be Inspired: Inspiration is all around and you must use it to name your team. If your team is inspired by a certain personality from the past – you can use it to create your own special name.

4. Don’t be repetitive: Avoid going for names that are already in use. This will only lead to confusion and your fans might not know who to cheer for. Team names are a reflection of what your team strongly believes in and thus has to be unique even though it might stem from an idea used previously by another team.

5. Test the name: Once you have chosen a name for your team, try it out and see how you like being called that. This way you can also know how it might be shortened.

6. Make it fun: Your team name should be fun. There has to be an element of mystery, pun and sexiness in it. However don’t go overboard. If you do not feel comfortable with the name there is little chance that your fans will.

7. Register it: Once the name has been decided upon do not forget to get it registered. Only when you have registered your name can it be actually called ‘YOUR’ name. This will also eliminate any chances of your team name being used by any other team and will also help your team name be unique.
