Gartner analyst Tom Auston has counted 37 significant enhancements to Google Apps Premier Edition following it acquisition of e-mail security vendor Postini. In addition to spam and virus blockers, businesses get new configurable options and administrators can add footers to every outbound message.
Google Apps Premiere users are already reaping the benefits of Google's purchase of Postini, according to PCWorld.com. Though the per user/per year price will stay at $50, customers will have access to Postini security and compliance features - including enhanced message filters and a whitelist.
Postini functionality will also allow corporate users to block outgoing mail containing keywords or names, or even to block outgoing spreadsheets containing sensitive financial details. In addition, storage capacity for Premiere users will jump from 10 GB to 25 GB, the story says.
Gartner’s Tom Austin says the adjustments will better position Google to compete with Microsoft Office. Moreover, he expects further announcements regarding Google Apps in coming months. (PCWorld.com notes that the company added 37 “significant enhancements” to the platform between February and June this year.)
Though Google Apps Premiere users won’t have free access to Postini’s more complicated wares, they will have the option to add some of them for a fee.
