One of the more prominent features of this phone though has to be its stunning 12 megapixel camera.

The latter will be the focus of this article as I take a closer look at how the N8 performs as a cameraphone.

The 12 megapixel camera is capable of taking incredibly high quality still images as you may expect. With the standard for most smartphones being either 5 or 8 megapixels,How Does The Nokia N8 Perform As A Cameraphone? Articles you can see how the camera of the N8 comes out in front. This may sound good on paper, but what does it actually mean? The 12 megapixels are made up of a resolution of 4000x 3000, meaning that the levels of detail and clarity of the resulting pictures are stunning, especially when you take into consideration the fact that the screen can display HD content of up to 16 million individual colours. As you may expect, the Nokia N8 also comes with a comprehensive software package to keep the camera easy to use yet very powerful. Autofocus keeps the camera zoomed at the optimum distance, whilst face detection works alongside this to automatically sense if there are any faces in the picture. As the vast majority of times users will be taking photos of other people, this feature tells the autofocus feature where to focus, resulting in the perfect snapshot every time. Geo-tagging is another feature which takes advantage of the phone’s GPS capabilities and records where the camera was used, and assigns this information to each photo. Users then have the option to browse photos sorted by location. The lens of the camera itself is actually manufactured by Carl Zeiss, a renowned lenses manufacturing company, so users have no doubts about the build quality of the hardware.

A big part of having a cameraphone is the ability to shoot video footage, and the Nokia N8 is equipped to do this to a very high standard. The ability to shoot HD video footage in 720p means that users can enjoy results which are every bit as impressive as the still images. There is also a VGA quality camera located on the front of the handset which can be utilised for video calls and taking self portrait photos.

Once you have taken your photos or videos, you then have a number of options. You can arrange them in folders based on event ort location etc or directly upload them to popular social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter. You can also utilise the TV-out socket to stream them to a compatible TV, which is ideal for sharing your handiwork with large groups.

There is of course much more to the Nokia N8 than just its camera, but as you can see it is a great asset to the overall appeal of the handset. If the quality of the camera is of any importance when it comes to choosing a new smartphone, the Nokia N8 should definitely be at the top of your list.
