Novel innovations and discoveries in the building information modeling (BIM) market is creating a favorable environment for constructors, builders, and engineers. The combination of different technologies brings about outcomes that only make our task simpler yet futuristic.
BIM software is not to serve as a replacement to the traditional methods but are a more advanced version of creating projects that appeal to builders. Traditional software versions of AutoCAD and 3D Max are still widely utilized for smaller projects among engineers who do not possess a handsome budget.
North America and Europe have always been a step ahead as far as technological innovation are concerned. North Bay in Ontario Canada is making the best use of resources. NorthBay Medical Center is coming up with a new three-story expansion in Fairfield. Building information modeling project leader, Jonathan Savnosnick is turning to virtual reality. They have come up with a virtual tour of the building that is yet to be completed. The 76,000-square-foot wing has a small office for the engineers work on the building’s infrastructure. They have used the HTC Vive virtual reality(VR) headset to showcase the internal structure of the medical center. The computer-generated 3D model can be viewed via the VR headset. The main purpose of the virtual reality assessment was to ensure that the plumbing and electrical layouts do not overlap each other. The nurses, doctors, and the staff will view the model with the help of this technology and will provide valuable feedback.
The concept of virtual reality being used to the advantage of building information modeling is a new idea. The engineers are interested in using this technology for further projects. Virtual reality in itself is a new technological development that is picking up gradual growth. Engineers and developers will soon be able to integrate VR with other segments to provide best results. They are only looking at the potential of this segment.

Engineers and builders alike are partnering with software developers to create a dynamic arena for project management systems. Cloud based technology is another innovative platform for sharing data and saving it for future reference. Software developers are utilizing its potential for collaborative and productive management functions. Autodesk’s BIM 360 Team has now come up with a cloud based project that can be accessed by the members involved in the project. The contractors, clients, builders, and engineers can access and put forward their inputs on the project irrespective of time and geographical location. Smartphones and devices are facilitating the users so they can be a part of the data in real time. The project can also be accessed via the app version of BIM 360 Team.
BIM 360 Team supports a broad variety of over 50 design file formats. Those are AutoCAD (DWG, CAD), DXF, Revit (RVT), IFC and Navisworks (NWD, NWF). Providing universal access to project data, the advantage lies in keeping the process flexible and secure on a plethora of devices. The project administrators have the control to manage user roles and permissions depending upon their responsibilities. Other developers now are expressing their desire to capture the cloud-based BIM platforms to their benefit. 3D Repo has added virtual reality functions to its software offering and BIM object AB with the launch of BIM supply. Engineers from across the globe can see a potential collaboration with other managers. Canadian engineering services firm Stantec used cloud-based BIM project management to develop Brentwood Mall’s residential towers in Burnaby, British Columbia. The client required a high-level coordination due to the project’s complexity. Hence Stantec chose BIM 360 Team to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Autodesk is providing the BIM360 degree tool as a full suite of cloud-connecting tool that can be used irrespective of the time and geographical location. The other BIM 360 tools include BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Glue, BIM 360 Layout and BIM 360 Plan. The building information modeling (BIM) sector will see more changes in the decade to come. Since clients are looking for a futuristic approach to construction, builders can see new innovations on the BIM segment. According to an in-depth study conducted by Allied Market Research, the global building information modeling market will gain a sum of $11.7 billion by the end of 2022. A compound annual growth rate of 21.6% is registered for the period of 2016 to 2022.
