As far as the modern consumer is concerned one of the most important aspects of any mobile handset is the user interface. What this relates to is basically the graphical display that you see and interact with on the phone. Excellent phones have been ruined by poorly designed interfaces whilst in contrast very average phones have received a huge boost thanks to an interface that makes using the phone fun and exciting. The new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a model that not only sports a great range of features but backs this specification up with two interface systems in the form of Timescape and Mediascape which both handle different areas of the phones operation.Perhaps the most appealing of both of these systems is Timescape,
a time line that pools together all manner of information in one place. This system can be likened to Motorolas attempts at a similar format which was named Motoblur and also the excellent Friendstream which was developed by HTC as part of there "Sense" user interface. Rather than relying upon the user accessing various applications on the phone in order to retrieve information, Timescape presents numerous incoming data formats all on the one screen. These formats include emails, SMS messages and social networking updates. Let me give you an example, on an older phone if you received a text message you would access the SMS menu in order to read it. You may then log on to Facebook to read an update. With Timescape this information is already there in an attractive looking carousel styled table. Obviously to comment on the status or to reply to the text the phone will take you to the relevant application, but as a means of viewing things quickly and easily there is no better system. Mediascape, the second part of the interface on the Sony Ericsson X10 gives you a very big clue as to which area it effects with its name. This is the manufacturers system to deal with all things relating to media on the handset, encompassing audio, video and photography. The main advantage of this is that it gives the user almost instant access to their files unlike other handsets where music and photographs need to be accessed via a menu system. With regards to audio songs can be sorted via a number of different classifications which include the usual suspects such as album name and artist as well less common headings such as genre and playlist. Another nice aspect on the audio side of Mediascape is the Infinity button. When you press this it accesses the web and brings up a host of information on the artist currently being played including YouTube videos. Its is nice touches such as this that set this interface apart from many of its rivals. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 offers users the interface that is the perfect accompaniment to the impressive list of features which include a high quality screen and an awesome camera facility. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo are available now.
