Power generation from power station to homes are shrouded in technology speak - here's how it works. How does the power get from the power station to our business and homes?
How does the power get from the power station to our business and homes? The answer has much to do with power transfomers and various kinds of pole line hardware, including high voltage insulators.
Power Transformers
Power goes from the power station to the sub station, which stations are situated in regular neighbourhoods. But by then the voltage is significantly reduced to be safer, although it's still at a very high level. This is handled by the use of distribution transformers and power transformers. Broadly, a power transformer has two sections: a primary coil and secondary coil. By means of the number of loops in the primary versus the number of loops in the secondary, the voltage is reduced. So if the primary has 50 loops in the coil and the secondary has 100 loops in it's coil - the voltage is halved. If that occurs again, and again - the voltage is brought down to a safe level. Since the heat produced in this process is considerable, the transformers are heavy duty. There also needs to be varying kinds of transformers, step up, step down, etc. All these come under the category of power transformers.
High Voltage Insulators
Those pylons that grace the countryside and utility poles that grace the streets convey the power from one place to another. But at the point of receiving the power and passing it onto the next pylon or utility pole, the power is generally still at a lethal level. Leakage is possible and insulation is required. The utility poles have high voltage insulators to assist with the power conveyance in a safe manner. The materials used are various - it might be high quality plastic or ceramic and may occupy several layers in case of deterioration of fracture.
By these two means and their associated hardware, the power is successfully transmitted from the power station and individual homes and businesses. OTDS is an example of companies that provide this equipment to companies building the infrastructure of electrical power.
Overhead Power Line Equipment Selection
Before any overhead power line can be implemented a thorough investigation and study must be carried out to ensure that the most practical route is selected. The overhead line equipment plays a vital part in the selection of route, both pole mounted transformers and high voltage insulators are all determining factors. Maps are developed in order to identify the avoidance and exclusion areas and other requirements before the project can begin. Once final route selection has been agreed the utility poles have to be selected.Distribution and Power Transformers Manufacturing process
Distribution transformers are manufactured exclusively of grain oriented steel assembled with interleaved joints and fastened, with particular care, by bout steel reinforcement in order to reduce to a minimum the hum and additional losses. The Web Landlords – is it worth the rent?
As businesses flock to the web, the concept of anyone being able to set up shop is declining as business people find that the web is even more expensive than bricks and mortar in the High Street. Small companies that aren’t efficient and don’t offer worthwhile services are getting squeezed out by the same people that squeeze out the smaller bricks and mortar businesses in the brick and mortar High Street.
