Embark on a captivating 10-day journey through Egypt, exploring its ancient wonders and relaxing on the pristine beaches of the Red Sea. This travelogue will guide you through a meticulously planned itinerary, highlighting key attractions and offering insights into making the most of your Egyptian adventure.
Post-2011, Egypt's tourism industry faced a significant downturn. However, by 2019, the sector began to recover, with increasing numbers of tourists each year. According to the World Tourism Organization, Egypt saw a 21% rise in tourist arrivals in 2019, signaling a positive trend for the country's travel industry.
For my trip, I opted for a local Egyptian travel agency, "Trips in Egypt," which offered a comprehensive 10-day tour. Local agencies often provide more authentic and cost-effective experiences compared to international operators who may include hefty commissions.
Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, I was greeted by a representative from "Trips in Egypt" and transferred to the Steigenberger Hotel. The evening was spent enjoying a dinner cruise on the Nile, complete with a belly dancing show and a Tannoura performance.
The day began with a guided tour of the Giza pyramid complex, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. The tour also included a visit to the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple, where ancient mummification processes took place.
A short flight took me to Aswan, where I explored the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and the beautiful Philae Temple dedicated to the goddess Isis.
An early morning drive led to the awe-inspiring temples of Abu Simbel, created during the reign of Ramesses II. These temples are a testament to ancient Egyptian engineering and artistry.
While cruising down the Nile, I visited the dual temple of Kom Ombo and the well-preserved Edfu Temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus.
In Luxor, I explored the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut on the West Bank, followed by the Karnak Temple Complex on the East Bank.
I spent two leisurely days at a luxury hotel in Hurghada, enjoying the Red Sea’s splendid beaches, vibrant marine life, and optional activities like snorkeling and desert safaris.
Back in Cairo, I visited the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel of Salah El-Din, and the bustling Khan El Khalili Bazaar.
On the final day, I was assisted with all departure formalities at Cairo International Airport before heading back home.
Egypt offers a unique blend of history, culture, and relaxation. This 10-day itinerary provides a comprehensive experience of what Egypt has to offer, from its ancient monuments to its modern-day charms. Whether you're marveling at the colossal structures left by ancient civilizations or soaking up the sun on the Red Sea coast, Egypt promises an unforgettable adventure.
