What is the best HTML editor for you and why? That is a hard question because there are so many variables, but I think we need to try.
What is the best html editor for you. The battle continues. Everybody has an opinion. Let's see if we can't sort this out.
If you're looking for an html editor you probably are not a html code cutter, code monkey or a geek. I figured it out after several mistakes and the html editor I finally picked has allowed my online business to grow. I'm not good at html and I sure didn't want to learn it. So I sought out a "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) editor.
Since you're not a code money you should stick with the WYSIWYG editor so I will limit this article to those html editors. Two things were important to me, learning curve and functionality. With any new software there is a learning curve. Some are brutal and some are easy. Forget about the brutal ones. The easy ones are what I call intuitive. In other words they operate much like other software such as MS word. One you learn MS word you want other content writing software to behave like that. If it does, you are productive in a day or two.
Let me say right here I don't like Microsoft Expressions Web or Microsoft Expressions Studio or even FrontPage. I just think they missed it when it comes to the functionality and I think they made it harder than it needs to be. I don't have enough time to dig into the exact details on those two or others I mention here. Each one is a whole other article.
It is important to note that there are free html editors on the market. What every you do don't spend much time with them. Think about why they are free? No one and I mean no one is going to build a great html editor and put it in the market for free. Now, you will get what I call light versions of a html editor, but the problem is websites today have to be search engine optimized. The light versions can build websites but they just don't have the depth to build SEO friendly websites.
The best html editors actually analysis what you are doing and tell you how to optimize your website before you FTP it to your host server. Plus the best ones give you free updates when they find out the search engines have changes the algorithms and tell you how to adapt too.
Adobe Dreamweaver was the front runner for several years. It is a good WYSIWYG html editor, but the learning curve is difficult. Also, buy the time you're really done with the add-ons you really need you are up over $500 bucks. Now if you are a web designer for a living that might be Okay. But if you just want to build your own websites for yourself and a others the price and learning curve is steep.
I'm going to get into the pluses and minuses of other popular html editors like NetOjbects Fusion, CoffeeCup, SeaMonkey and other in future articles. As I said, I'm not going to get into free html editors because it is just too hard today to build websites with them that can rank in the search engines listings.
So here we are and your still not sure what html editor is best for you. Don't worry, I wasted probably six months looking for a intuitive serious html editor. I found it and it made my online business. I build all my own websites so I'm in the trenches every day.
