The old websites are more valuable.

Recently,What is the Value of a Website? Articles I've seen two associations lose very valuable domains, which is the reason why I wrote this post. Perhaps this happened because of the lack of counseling. Or maybe it was because of wrong information. There aren't very many companies that are dedicated to offering information and web services, which contributes to the fact that many people don't know the value of what they have.

Someone thought: we don’t need it anymore, it served its purpose! Or maybe someone said: look, we need to remodel the old website, but a company is offering a new website with another domain (www….) and everything new; it’s better that way!!

What nobody thought about was the value of old things!! On the web, the older it gets, the more valuable it is!

The old websites are more valuable because of the following:

  •  They are recognized, the branding they have is valuable.
  •  They undoubtedly have many links that they have earned throughout the years, links that will be lost, links that many times come from websites which have reputation, and that have a lot of authority (trust) on the web, and that usually have a strong impact on positions.
  •  They are domains and websites that have had good or bad rankings, but they’ve had something, and starting from zero is worse than starting from something.
  • They are domains that have been “marked by Google” and have passed the tests of time, authority, subject, etc.

All this is lost when you give away, neglect, or fail to renew an old domain.

Of course, there are also reasons for abandoning a domain. For example:
1. That it has been marked as spam: If a website has been marked as spam, and it appears in the lists of websites that send spam, and if the website isn’t very important, maybe, only maybe, if other factors have been measured, it would be easier to abandon it and buy a new domain.
2. That the website hasn’t been on the web for very long.
3. That the domain has few entry links, or the ones that it has aren’t very valuable.

In other circumstances, it’s better to keep the domain and/or work to optimize it. And if in the end it isn’t desired, you can sell it. There are many companies that would be willing to buy it. You could also use a domain auctioning system, which there are many of.

But maybe the best thing that you can do is to look for a web counseling company that can help you to measure the value of the domain, so that you can take the time to evaluate whether you abandon it, sell it or exploit it.
