ABOUT THE PINK COLOR

Just like other diamonds, pink diamonds can be graded for its intensity into categories such as light, very light, faint, fancy dark, fancy light, fancy vivid and fancy intense. Also just like other shades, the stronger the color, the higher the price will be.

Pink diamonds most times have secondary colors which are additional modifying colors. The known modifying colors are brown, purple and orange and when combined with pink will be described on the certificate as brown pink, orange pink and purple pink. In situations where the modifying color is not strong it would be known as brownish pink, orangy pink and purplish pink.

WHERE DO PINK DIAMOND GET THEIR COLOR FROM?

Unlike other diamonds that we know where their colors come from, where the color of pink diamonds comes from still remains a mystery. For example, blue diamonds are known to get their color from traces of boron while green diamonds get their color from carbon atoms. Where the pink diamond gets its color from is still unknown, but it assumed that during the moment the rock is forced up to the surface of the earth, the rock’s structure is in a way altered and changed which allows it to be deformed. It is believed that this deformation leads to the stone absorbing light differently making it emit the pink color.

Natural pink diamonds can be seen in countries like Russia, South Africa, Brazil, Canada and Tanzania. WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN BUYING A PINK DIAMOND

Ensure that the diamond is a GIA certified pink diamond and not a gemological certificate. Without having a GIA certificate, you are not sure of what you are buying which is risky. GIA certificates are more consistent and strict in their grading of diamonds ensuring you get the real value and standard which is why GIA certified pink diamonds are more expensive than IGI certified pink diamonds.
