Romany Travels

The travellers, sometimes called gypsies or Romany have been known as being psychic for generations. They generally travel in gypsy caravans pulled by horses. The ladies of the bands often give palm readings as well as psychic readings. The leader of the band’s wife is treated like a queen. In fact she is their queen.

Traditionally psychic gypsies ask you to cross their palm with silver. This indicates an exchange of energies as well as payment for their time and knowledge.  These folks have a very highly tuned sense of psychic energy and although over time they seem to have been shunned by society as being vagabonds, if you get to know them, they have a very hierarchical sense of values. They are using what they know to earn a little money. Remember they don’t put down roots at all so they never have a stable job. They are the people that will float along to pick grapes or apples in the season and then move on again. In the old days they would have mended pots and pans or made clothes pegs and baskets.  The modern world has deprived them of many of their traditional ways of making a small income. They carry their house on their back so to speak. One of their traditions that is passed down is the ability of reading palms and they are extremely good at it. Palmistry is a psychic ability I have merely dabbled in and although I know some of the lines on my palms I by no means no a great deal. Beyond lifelines, heart lines and the like it is largely a mystery to me at this point in time. I have known a few gypsies in my time but most of these are ones who opted out of the old life and put down roots to get a normal 9 to 5 job, or more like a 6 am to 10 pm job.  This is one thing I have to say for them, when they work at a traditional job, they make it a passion. Even in these circumstances their psychic abilities remain with them although more in the sense of the clairvoyance than the palm reading. In many respects they are similar to the fairground psychic. You will get a “fortune telling” showing you want you traditionally want to hear. Young girls looking for love might be told of the man they might marry and what he looks like but when they start to read the palm listen closely. This is when the age old format tends to change as they actually see the things the lines on your palms and wrists and the backs of your hands are telling them.

When they read palms they don’t just look at the inside of the hand. They look at the wrist and the back of the hand as well. Both hands are read in a psychic palm reading.  The one is said to represent the past as in the life you have lived up until the date of the reading. The right hand is said to reveal what the future holds.  While as I have said I don’t have a great knowledge of palm readings I have taken note of my own palms over time and have been intrigued to note that it does not remain the same but lines get longer, shorter and also change direction.
