There are affiliate programs and ads, which with a few pennies, nickels or dimes per click, or a few dollars to about 15 per 1,000 impressions pay that can give you ideas to make money. But what performs better, ads or affiliate programs?

That depends very much on the content of your site, your visitors and products. For example at sites on travel and tourism partner programs sometimes both work very well. This is because:

·         Relatively, there are many travelers who book online

·         Large amounts of bookings are made daily

·         the commission paid per travel is reasonable

In other sectors working with affiliate programs earn you much less. The committee is sometimes unreasonably low (eg 1 or 2%) and the conversion is dramatically low too (eg less than 0.1%).

Why are there so many of these affiliate programs? Because it is very attractive for the supplier. He has no advertising costs and pays only a percentage of sales. He is guaranteed a nice profit on your affiliate efforts (which they call "performance-based marketing"). Meanwhile all the affiliates are involved in building his reputation. And it gets even better when a customer returns after a one-time sales turnover (eg subscriptions). A supplier would be crazy if he would have no partner program!

Always be critical of affiliate programs. That it is beneficial to the supplier as a sore thumb. But is it good for you? Maybe you can have regular ads on your site longer. In addition, the affiliate programs often work with temporary campaigns (discounts and promotions) that you always need to place and remove after a while. That brings a lot of work with them. Think of it advertising systems, like that of Google, which automatically rotate, giving you no headache and manual labor.

So, in short, Ads will give you lesser profit but lesser effort is exerted.  While, affiliate marketing gives you a bigger chunk of the earnings but you also need to make a relatively big effort for internet marketing.  However, you can also combine these two ideas to make money online.  So, don’t just stick to one, stick to both ways to make money online!
