The thickness of a bullbar is very important because the thicker it is, the more impact it will be able to bear. Also, the grade of the material is worth knowing because every material has a different impact value. They can also act as impact bars, as in, triggering the release of the airbags on an impactful collision. Some plastic bullbars act as a spring by absorbing and releasing pressure so a vehicle is in the condition of being driven even after an impact. Bullbars are very common in Australia because the omnipresent Kangaroos act as a huge safety hazard on the roads, so much that they are responsible for 60% of the collisions between animals and cars in the country. Bullbars have earned the name ‘roo bars’ because of it.
Bullbar or a nudge bar finds an important usage for the police. It can be used as a battering ram by installing it to the chassis of the car. The car can break down fences or some structures and also to push disabled vehicles off the road to clear the area. Police also a nudge bar as a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) bumper to assist in PIT maneuver. It is a technique by which police set a vehicle off while chasing it on the road. They chase the fleeing vehicle and give a slight nudge at the target’s rear wheels which makes the target lose control and his vehicle spins off, giving the police a chance of catching him. All this makes a bullbar one of the most sought after 4x4 accessories.
