With the invention of the first automobile in the year 1886, the technology advancements have transformed the first-ever three-wheeler vehicle into luxurious cars with four wheels and features. Owning a car has become an essential commodity for almost everyone at present, but to a shock, not everybody knows how to use all its features optimally. One such common feature which we all use and will be discussed in this article is Car Air conditioning. Most of us use it just to cool the temperature inside the car, but today, we will talk about how to use it on a rainy day or a very bright day.
The functioning of the Air Conditioner
Almost all the cars come equipped with the air conditioning standards except a few. The real question here is, “What does car conditioning actually do?” The functioning of air conditioning is a bit complicated, and to a surprise, it is actually a heat pump. Now the question that must have come to your mind is, “How and why does it pump heat?”
The air conditioner has three main components, the evaporator, compressor and condenser. The compressor is fixed in the engine compartment, the evaporator in the climate control system air box, and the condenser fixed in front of the radiator. The compressor is used to circulate the refrigerant, primarily R-134a, through the condenser and evaporator. The condenser and evaporator are connected via tubes and hoses. At this point, the climate control fan blows the air over the evaporator, and the refrigerant absorbs all the heat in the air.
The cold air comes out from the other side of the evaporator, and through the vents, it flows into the car. Whereas, the refrigerant circulates the warm air to the condenser. The second fan blows the air over the condenser, releasing the heat in the refrigerant into the air outside the vehicle. Finally, the refrigerant circulates back to the evaporator to collect more heat.
This is how the air conditioner works. It seems so simple to press the button and enjoy the cold air inside the car, but it is so complicated inside. Anyways, let us take a look at how to use it optimally.
How To Use Car Air Conditioning- Even If It’s Cold
Most of the automakers make the air conditioning work in a way that once the windshield defroster is turned on, it automatically turns on the air conditioning.
Most of the drivers turn off the air conditioning, thinking the air conditioner emits cold air, but actually, we should keep in mind that air conditioning emits dry air. As the cold air cannot hold moisture for a long time, the humidity in the air condenses in the evaporator when the air conditioner works. It is the reason behind the formation of the puddle of water under the car while using the air conditioner on a humid day.
In modern automobiles, the evaporator is fixed before the heater core in the airbox. It enables the air conditioner to control the temperature independently. Once the air conditioner is switched on, cold and dry air comes from the evaporator. And, once the air passes through the heater core, the air becomes hot and dry.
To defog the front glass, blowing hot and dry air on the windshield than hot and humid air is much better. It would be best if you let go of the urge to turn off the air conditioner on a cold or rainy day. It will result in the increased visibility and eliminate the need for any rag to defog the windshield, keeping your hands always on the steering wheel.
