Haulage companies, armed with the new CART Security System, are ready to tackle cargo crime head on.
The seriously underreported – yet devastatingly harmful – problem of cargo crime is about to meet its match now that haulage companies are being armed with the latest CART Security Guide. The Cargo and Transport Security Guide is the final result of an extensive collaboration between key industry leaders including DIPS (Distribution Industry Partnership Scotland), the RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) Insurance Group, Motorway Buddy and NaVCIS (National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service).
By drawing opinions from these professional organisations, the group was able to tap into their vast collective knowledge and experiences, to ultimately “provide a greater insight into the security risks posed to road haulage companies and potential solutions that can be adopted.”
Is the Threat Real?
The harsh reality is that cargo crime costs the haulage industries billions every year. The crimes typically garner little attention by law enforcement, and generally victimised companies feel that it is simply a cost of the business and turn a blind eye to it. However, the methods of the criminals and effects of the crimes have evolved over the years. The CART Security Guide is the latest, most comprehensive guide – designed specifically for haulage companies – with common-sense, practical solutions for finally minimising these daily threats.
Goals
The topics covered by the new security guide include specific threats that haulage companies and operators face on a daily basis as well as some newer ones that have been reported recently. The resource’s sixteen chapters outline the risks and practical solutions for tackling cargo theft, hijacking and many other crimes that are related to commercial vehicles. The guide’s goal is to assist companies in assessing their vulnerabilities and offer ideas for strengthening those weaknesses.
Positive Progress
The official guide is available for free through the Maple Fleet Services website. Alan Maple, the Technical Director of the company, commented that:
“for more than 43 years, we (Maple) have made it our business to improve the security of commercial vehicles. During this time we have worked closely with the logistics industry, marine insurance companies, vehicle and OE manufactures, police, trade originations and government bodies. It has enabled us to see the subject from all perspectives and gain a greater, well rounded understanding as a result. We have asked for involvement (on this project) from other professionals and stakeholders within the industry, who like myself, share a passion for fighting cargo crime. We wanted their insight, experience and professional opinion to ensure that the guide remained as informative and relevant as possible.”
The outcome of this collective endeavour can only be positive. Haulage companies now have the knowledge it takes to fight back against the crimes that have previously cost them enormous amounts financially. The haulage and transportation industry will now have greater security for their workforce as well as the goods they transport every day.
