Type-1, 5-10% of all cases, usually occurs in children and young adults. Here, the body does not produce insulin (the hormone that carries glucose from the blood to cells) but breaks down sugar and starch from food.
Over 90-95% of adults suffer from Type-2 diabetes, a lifelong disease in which there is a high level of sugar in the blood. Here insulin is produced, but the body becomes resistant to it.
