Do you need a custom network cable to wire a room? Or do you just not want to pay the excessive amount of money that you are asked for on the big surfaces by the network cables? A good solution is to make your own or try a professional company like Data Cabling Fort Lauderdale. Contrary to popular belief, the process is not difficult and advanced knowledge about networks is not necessary.
Here is a procedure about how to do it: from the tools and materials you need to tips to make them fail as little as possible. In this case, we have chosen to make a direct cable , ideal to connect a PC to a switch or router, although the process would be similar to make a crossover cable.
Tools and Materials Needed
1x Network cable
1x Crimping Machine
1x Scissors
2x RJ-45 Connectors
Perhaps the most difficult to achieve is the crimper , which is the tool with which we will fix the RJ-45 plug to the cable. They can be found for sale online for about 15 euros, although if you are not going to make cables frequently and you want to save the money the best is to ask a friend if he has one. There are crimping machines that, in addition to allowing "crimping" RJ-45, can also be used for RJ-11 (telephone cable). If you are not going to use cable of the latter type, it is best to buy a simple one because they are cheaper.
1. Peel the cable carefully
The first step is to peel about 3 cm. The plastic cover of the network cable at one of its ends. When performing this operation, care must be taken not to damage the internal pairs of the cable. To do this, we can use the blade that normally comes with the crimpadoras, but personally I find it easier to do it with normal scissors and currents. Make a not very deep cut and then pull to remove the excess plastic.
2. Separate cables and stretch them
Once we have the pairs in the air, we can see that they come twisted two by two (that's why twisted pair). We have to "untangle" them and stretch them as much as possible, avoiding curves or angles. The more straight they are, the better. In addition we can take advantage to separate them a little, which will be useful for the next step.
3. Order cables
We already have pairs stretched and ready to order. As in this case we want to connect a PC and Router, we will use the specification of direct cable (the one you can see in the image). If we wanted to make a crossover cable, it would be to do the same only following the order of that other specification. It is important that the cables are neatly arranged so that afterwards there are no problems.
4. Carefully cut and insert them into the RJ-45 jack
To insert the cables into the RJ-45, it is important to first cut off any excess cables. The idea is that we only have 1.5cm of pairs in the air, as you can see in the image. In addition, it is important to match the length of all of them so that they then enter and connect well into the plug.
Once trimmed and evened, take the connector and insert the pairs, so that the pin 1 (orange) is left to the left if we look at the connector with the tab facing down. Before introducing them to the bottom, we re-verify that the order is correct , in case some cable moved of place. If all goes well, we introduce them to the bottom.
At this point we have to check that the cables reach the end of the connector (if not, the cable would not work well, so we would have to remove the pairs and match them again) and that the plastic that covers the pairs (Green in my case) comes to a kind of inner flange where it is fixed so that it does not release later.
5. Fix with the crimp
If everything is correct (it is important to make sure that once we proceed with this step and it will be fixed), we insert the RJ-45 plug into the hole of the crimpadora and press moderately (not too loose but not without passing either). A small click will sound. That means the RJ-45 plug is already fixed and well in place.
6. Repeat with the other end and check
We already have one of the extremes. Now we would have to repeat the process with the other and then check that the cable works. If this is not the case, you may have had some error in ordering the cables by colors or maybe a pair does not reach the RJ-45 connectors. Nothing happens: you can always cut the "defective head" and try again.
Although it may seem like a laborious process, as soon as you make two or three cables it becomes automatic. Plus you can get some help from network cabling fort lauderdale anytime
