It is now well known that the schedule of any productive individual includes sleeping into their plans.  Gone are the days when it was assumed that sleeping was reserved for the lazy and that the most productive and effective members of society get to bed late and wake up early in the morning.  Health experts and doctors all around the word agree and recommend that an adult receives roughly eight hours of sleep with in every twenty-four hour period of time.  It is of little consequence whether we sleep during the day or we sleep during the night.  Just as long as we find the time to get the recommended amount of sleep.  When we do not get the recommended amount of sleep we accumulate what is known as a “sleep debt”.  A sleep debt refers to the difference between the amount of sleep that we should be getting and the amount of sleep that we are actually receiving.  For example, if you only get two hours sleep instead of the recommended eight hours of sleep, you accumulate a sleep debt of five hours.  It is not advisable to work or to attempt to function whilst owing a debt to your bed.  

 

Mankind has built technologies that allow us to communicate with other individuals on the other side of the planet at the speed of light.  Human beings have also  been responsible for creating technologies that allow us to fly higher, faster and further than any bed has attempted.   It is because we have such large brains that we are able to do these amazing things.  However, our brains become increasingly ineffective when we go for long periods of time without sleep.  A nap quickly refreshes and rejuvenates the mind.
