Ambit Energy today named Jim Timmer as its new Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Timmer will also serve as a member of Ambit’s executive management team. Mr. Timmer is a seasoned executive with more than two decades of experience in senior finance and operational roles. Mr. Timmer has served as Chief Financial Officer of airBand Communications, Birch Telecom and Excel Communications, a $1.6 billion entity
While at Excel, Mr. Timmer also served as Interim Chief Operating Officer and was instrumental in formulating direct sale compensation plans. Prior to joining Excel, Mr. Timmer served as Vice President of Finance at Verizon, a $26 billion entity, where he held various leadership roles over a 20 year period.

Although the process of opening electric markets to competition has faced challenges in some states, Texas has avoided the most serious of these kinds of problems. SB 7 was passed by the Texas Legislature in 1999. It authorized electric competition in the retail segment beginning on Jan. 1, 2002.
