Misconception 1: A person conversant in more than one languages can become a professional translator

Misconception 2: Since a translator knows a particular language he/she can translate any matter

Misconception 3: Translation and reverse translation are same thing

In order to understand that this is a misconception it is important to understand the basic difference between translation and reverse translation. Say for instance, a native Spanish translator knows Mandarin. When he translates an input document in Mandarin into Spanish, it will be known as translation. But when the person can reverse the order and changes an input document in Mandarin into Spanish then it will be denoted as reverse translation. But it is extremely erroneous to consider that all translators having proficiency in translating from Spanish to Mandarin will have the same credibility to offer a flawless reverse translation. Although there are independent translations offering error free translation and reverse translation, the number is few.
