No architect is satisfied with their income; they always have issues and complain. Nowadays all kinds of business have some problem or the other. No one is leading,Fees of the modern architects of Edinburgh Articles there is great competition and all are standing side by side no one is behind on another. Because of recession jobs have gone down with reduced fees. Earlier the architects were very lucky to have good amount of fees and additional commissions, however that does not seem to be the case now. Old architects of Edinburgh say those were the golden days, and those days were during the 1980’s. There used to fee scales, these were set by professionals; each member of a body had to charge the same for a particular job. Like for instance, there are twenty dentists in the city and all of them will have to charge the same amount for any job they do, whether small or big. By this the consumer knows that all the dentists have a same cost and there is no need of choice and preference due to the cost. Therefore this also applied for other professions also.

In Edinburgh the fee scales became as “Recommended Fee Scales”. After this there have been great changes, competition increased and people would choose only architects whose work was of fine quality and was reputed, however now the price also matters, there are just a few exceptional cases which don’t see the cost. Edinburg is one place where there is wonderful work of architecture; there are beautiful monuments and houses. The museums are wonderful. It shows the amount of hard work and creativity which was put into it. Before the post war days of Edinburgh architects had great respect and honour in the society but during the mid 80’s there has been a decline in the fees of architects. They value for their creation has gone down, as there is humungous competition.

A better way has been found to resolve this issue, architect are charging for the practise and even the small amount of work that they do. They charge on hourly basis on the kind of service they provide, also for all the members of the staff. By this way the public gets an idea of how much it’s charged, this way consultation fees also came in, nowadays the architects charge hefty amount only for consultation and especially in Edinburg where there are great architectural schools and places of work. The concept is very different now, the bigger a building the more is the fees of architects.

Many of the clients are not ok with the hourly basis fees as they think discussions should not be limited to the fees, this way they hardly get time to discuss the queries. However fees discussion is a taboo. Architects in Edinburgh now refuse to say their prices over the phone, they ask for consultation and this way they can charge fees as. They do this because they think their job does not provide them enough money for their work and creations.
