European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) estimates that more than 4,100,000 patients in the European Union (EU) are estimated to acquire a healthcare associated infection each year. The organization also suggest that 20% - 30% of hospital acquired infections can be prevented by intensive hygiene and control policies. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 7-10% of hospitalized patients acquire infection at hospitals globally, and this percentage of higher in developing and under developed economies.
