We don’t always think back on how the hospitality industry ships across countries and continents centuries ago. And, how it improves over the years. Importing and exporting these days, across countries and continents are a lot easier than what it was a year ago. With this, we are getting a look back in time. In how they shipped edible materials years ago when technology was only a word.

Shipping during ancient times

100 years ago,How Hospitality Companies Transport Cargo Overseas Articles the cargo ships were completely different than what we know today. It took them months to get from one country to the next. And, this is if the pirates and storms didn’t destroy them during the trip. Making this a risky job.

The ships weren’t fast, it didn’t have engines that were driving the ship forward. And, it didn’t have containers, coolers, and tanks that kept the food safe. When the food arrives in the other country or continent, most of the time it wasn’t fresh or usable anymore.

Storage issues and safeguarding products from disease

We all know that some food products should not mix with each other. Especially if the product is going off and not eatable any more. Way back, when they first start shipping perishables between countries and continents, they didn’t know much about contamination and preservation.

They start shipping food as soon as possible and hoped that it will still be usable when they arrive in the other country or continent. Most of the time the food wasn’t usable, but they still sell it. Or, they only ship products that couldn’t get contaminated or that doesn’t have preservation problems.

Contemporary shipping

In our modern world, things are completely different. The hospitality industry is shipping all kinds of food across continents and to different countries. And, we don’t have any problems with food that might not last until the ship reaches the shore.

The ships that we are using today has engines that are making it a lot faster to ship across countries. It normally takes only a day or two to go from one country to the next. While years ago, it took weeks, or even months to go from one country to the next.

Storage containers that keep food fresh and free from disease

The food that we are shipping on the ships is safe and secure. It is getting shipped in containers. Containers that are ensuring that no food is contaminated with bacteria and disease. These containers can also be turned into freezers, making sure that food is staying fresh.

The latest technology of the containers is the fact that there are tracking installed on the containers. Making it easier for the owners of the containers to know exactly where the containers are and how far from the destination it is.

Constant evolution

Something that you need to realize is that the technology of shipping food and goods across the ocean is changing all the time. And, it is still going to change a lot in the future. With the technology that we have today, where everything is getting better, faster and more effective, the shipping industry is going to change as well. Only for the better.

Over time, shipping food from one country to the next changed a lot. Especially when it comes to having fast it has been done. And the condition of the food when it reaches the destination. Shipping across continents isn’t a problem anymore and in the future, it is just going to get better. Faster, more effective and no matter how far the ship is going, the food will be fresh, without any contamination problems.
