Most people really get started in the wrong direction in network marketing. The potential is there with some companies to build a solid income that you can retire on, but only if you have a tested, proven system that works to build your business. And part of that system needs to be an understanding of what prospects really want.
If you can give them what they really want, you have a chance. If you can't give them what they want, they will keep on looking.
What they want is not really complicated. They need to see if if they like you, and if you like them. They have to find out if your business-building plan is something they can do. Plus, they need to see whether you can help them. You definitely need a strong plan to build relationships with people. You've got to put them on track to generate a steady stream of leads so they can build their business. If you can show that to them in a step-by-step simple plan, then you have a pretty good chance. People must know it's something they can do.
Emphasize how straightforward and easy your plan is, and that it's very easy for them to learn and to teach others. Show them your system is easily duplicated, which is exactly what they'll need to for long-term success in MLM.
MLM success requires a long-term commitment.
Plenty of people just figure, "I'll try this for awhile." The chance of success with that lousy commitment isn't very good. It's important to be able to see the simple bedrock principle of building relationships and to realize that relationships just take a "forever" commitment.
You never hear anybody say they'll try marriage for 3 months and see if it works. You can make a good, stable income in MLM, when you use a system that works, and when you have chosen a good company. We'll assume you have that part. The next crucial element is to continually tighten the grip on your own commitment. Identify each specific task you'll be doing.
Plan a regular schedule each day to do these tasks. Where will you be? Who can you get ahold of to quickly answer questions? You need to be able to talk to someone who is actually using the system and getting good results with it right now. You need to see in a hurry by your own experience that your system works, or you'll find excuses not to do any work. For example, chances are you won't ever get any actual work done while you are babysitting. You have no real opportunity for success. If you're making phone calls, you have to be sure to set aside time that you can give prospects your undivided attention.
Thirty-year MLMer Michael Dlouhy talked about these ideas and a lot more in his ebook, "Success In 10 Steps."
You'll find ideas in this book that really make you sit up and take notice. You probably know the failure rate is high in most businesses. And with most MLM companies, the cards are really stacked against you. Back in the early 1990s, Dlouhy signed up in more than 100 MLMs and did a comparison of them in a lot of different ways. He discovered some common factors that really cause most new reps to really have no chance to ever be successful in the business. He also found that if you can avoid those certain problems, you have a real chance to make a long-term living from network marketing, maybe even achieve the "retirement" dream.
