As you start thinking about an intrastate move you need to find out if the movers you want to hire charge an hourly rate or a flat rate. You also need to think about the do's involved in hiring the right company for the job.
If you are making an intrastate move and decide to hire movers then you need to understand the fees they charge before you hire them. Some charge an hourly rate while others charge a flat rate. An hourly rate is likely to include a minimum amount per hour such as the amount charged for two to three hours. Included in this might be the charge to have the moving people come to your residence for the initial pick-up.
A flat rate takes into consideration everything that needs to be moved and any special circumstances surrounding the move such as parking,
lots of stairs to walk, etc. Find out before you sign any documents if there are any additional fees to be paid. In some cases there will be room for negotiations with the movers.

Do investigate the moving business that you are thinking of hiring before you sign anything. You should turn over every stone before you sign your name to any document.
Do find out if the business is a broker or if that is the business that will actually be doing the moving for you. A broker is an individual who is essentially a go-between and will hire movers to do the job for you, the client. If you are dealing with a broker and you are all right with that then find out all of the relevant details beforehand. You should take your time to do your homework on both the moving company as well as the broker.
Do be honest and upfront about all of the circumstances surrounding your relocation, as are pertinent to the movers. For instance, tell them how many stairs you how, if they are narrow or winding and if you have furniture that they may have a problem moving. If you live in an apartment complex and the front door tends to stick then tell the moving people that information. Even the smallest morsel of information can matter a great deal. Being honest with the movers can be of tremendous help to them in doing their jobs and may even save you some money!
Do request a written statement for all of your fees and charges. If you will be charged an hourly rate then make sure that that is written down in the contract.
Do ask about the insurance policy that the company has. In the event that any of your property is damaged or lost you want to be able to get some money back to replace your items.
