We are into the glooming 21st Century and are slowly moving from paper pads to notepads in every segments in various industries. What we used to do using papers, like writing accounts using pen and paper, maintaining employee records in registers etc are done using computers.
This is a dot-com era and here nobody is allowed anymore using papers and pen. We email and not mail letters, we open stores on-line and not in various cities and countries. Thats the global part of the boom.
In workforce management, using paper sheets to register and track employee working hours are just stories now. With so much sophistication, availability of softwares and computers on every desk, people have move ahead with time in tracking time.
Your company has nothing to do with on-line activities and the entire operations are run on intranet, then there are installed softwares available. Again with so much vendors in the market, these guys also take care of every small specific requirements before installation and implementation. Here the only concern is managing the server since in this case, one machine is utilized as the server and all the database is stored and called from this server. With any problems with the server machine will mean a lot for the company then.
With internet available and employees having access to internet, the latest and most reliable solution available is On-Demand services. This means all a user needs to do is go to a url and after entering a user name, password & company name they punch in their attendance. Now here, the services is not just limited to tracking time, it also includes many more services required by the HR in managing employees same as installed softwares. The only other difference between installed and online services is the hosting & managing the server. For smaller organizations, this seems a small issue, however for large companies this very difference has a strong impact in deciding on the services to go for.
