Translation Rules the World, and Did So Literally In the Past

Languages are important; these are some of the most important tools of humankind. Although people speak different languages, this should not be a hindrance to language providers. Thus, the roles of translators and interpreters are significant in so many ways. During ancient times, when people started to sail and learned how to barter spices and ideas from different people, ancient people discovered that people’s languages and cultures are usually not the same. And the process of barter is only effective if both parties meet the same standard of understanding, but unfortunately, at that time people sometimes couldn’t  make a good and effective conversation.Ancient people thus had difficulties in communication. However, because they gave importance and value to their barters and trades, most of them started to learn simple and basic conversational lines in foreign languages.Ancient people did not learn languages because of business or barter purposes only, but they also learned languages in order to invade land territories, to disseminate their own culture and to rule other people. One of the best examples of this occurred during the British invasion and ancient period in the United States. We all know that the real or Native Americans were the Red Indians. However, this early era of American history ended when the British entered what is now the U.S. It is really amazing that the British used the most effective tool in order to capture the trust of every Red Indians. British invaders adopted and practiced the languages of the natives, and used them to communicate with the locals.From this point onwards, when the British learned to speak the languages of the ancient Red Indians, they were confident enough to be involved in the community. However, the trust of the locals in the British did not last that long because they noticed that the British were only showing them a nice attitude because they wanted to rule America.  From then on, revolutions and wars between the Red Indians and British occurred. At that time, since the British were actually still not fluent in the languages of the locals, the invaders induced local interpreters in order to know the plans of the locals in making alliances for fighting back against the British. The invaders were eventually successful in invading America, partly through adopting languages and using interpreting services.Languages are very powerful in all sorts of ways. You may use languages for whatever purpose you want. The British for example hired an interpreter who was a local to convey all the important messages or details to local communities. It seems that most of invaders have applied this kind of strategy – learning and interpreting languages.Until now, translation and interpreting is still very common in the world. People may utilize interpreting and translation services in dealing with business, legal procedures, financial markets or for medical research. Language providers or linguists played a big role even before. They help us made a possible link for effective communication. However, professional ethical codes amongst translators and interpreters dictate that today,is a criminal offense for linguists to be involved in any terrorist agenda or translation for terrorist attacks. Thus, just like clients should exert caution when hiring linguists, translators and interpreters should be careful as well when accepting a job for translation. In other words, they should know the main purpose, or what is the translation is for. In that way, they will be able find their own security, away from risks.
