Water damages can be categorized into three types, clean, gray, and black water. Clean water refers to the water that does not pose any threat to human beings. You are safe to be inside your premises, when the restoration process starts as the water do not contain impurities or harmful chemicals. The second category refers to the type that contains contaminants which when consumed or worked on causes discomfort or ill effects on your health. Black water refers to sewage, sea water, and contaminated standing water. It's the worst among other categories, containing bacteria ,fungi, and other agents that should only be dealt by professionals who have the resources to handle them. If gray water is allowed stand for more than forty eight hours, it too will fall into the third category.

Due to the destructive capacity of water, restoration processes depend on the area that has been affected on account of the damages. Many of us have developed the misconception that damages are usually caused by large scale flooding or other natural disasters, but this is not always the case. Such damages in small scale too can incur losses. Most damages can be prevented if frequent checks are made in the plumbing systems, foundations, and the roof of your house. Exhaust fans must be installed in kitchens and bathrooms to prevent such damages. When you take a shower or cook, water vapors into the air if your bathroom and kitchen are not well ventilated. And, this results in the wall paper or walls becoming damp. In due course of time, the wallpaper or the paint will have to be replaced as a result of chipping, which resulted from excess moisture accumulated on them. This can become a costly affair if it has to be done frequently. Wooden flooring and carpets should be dried properly so that they do not become a haven for mold, mildew, and other bacterial growths.
