What is an EDM

EDM is also known as electrical discharge machine which has various types such as wire EDM, sinking EDM, spark machining and burning eroding machines. The main function of this machine is to cut objects in various shapes and join then in order to give them a new identity. Recurring current charges are given by the two electrodes which are separated through a liquid. One electrode is attached with the object that is known as work piece electrode and the other one contains a wire or other tool. When the two electrodes come in contact with each other they produce spark and intense amount of heat is generated as a result of it. Thus the area which you wanted to remove is detached from the work piece. A fluid is used to cool down the metal as it becomes really hot when electric spark passes through it. This fluid will prevent the object from burning and will cool it down. Further in this article I would like to discuss types and functioning of different kinds of EDM machines.

One of an EDM machine is known as wire EDM, sinker EDM and precision machine. The wire EDM machine uses a wire that is metallic in nature. The small hole EDM machine is used for drilling the hard surfaces which can not be drilled easily. The working of these machines is different from the regular drill machines. These machines are capable of drilling holes in electrical conductive materials no matter how hard the surface or metal is. The last type of this machine that I will discuss with you is the most popular type of EDM machine as it is related with the designs of different things it is known as precision machine.
