What is Web 2.0 and how can it help you?
You have heard the term web 2.0 many times, but do you know what it is? Is it some special upgrade to the original? Is it something ordered by the government? Is it a Bill Gates special tools? No, actually, it is none of these things. Really, there is no official thing called web 2.0, but it is one of those nicknames that just came about.
Just like in sports, nick names come from a characteristic that people see. Karl "The Mailman" Malone got his name because he always delivers like the post office. The web got it's nick name because it is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user centered design and collaboration on the World Wide Web.
Examples of Web 2.0 include web-based communities, hosted services, web services, web applications, social networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis and blogs. A Web 2.0 site allows its users to interact with each other as contributors to the website' s content, in contrast to non-interactive websites where users are limited to the passive viewing of information that is provided to them.
In other words, at first when you went on the web, all you could do was to look up information and do research. Later, some very smart people came up with sites like Face Book, Twitter, You Tube, Space Book and blogger. Those sites allowed you to actually communicate instantly with other people on the web. It allowed you to meet people all over the world and keep in touch with them. and that is how the World Wide Web got it's nickname web 2.0
