The word liqueur comes from the Latin word liquifacere, which means "to dissolve" or "to melt". Liqueurs are typically sweet, aromatic spirits that are flavored with fruits, herbs, spices and cream. The word liqueur is believed to have originated in France around 1660 when Benedictine monks began adding fruit juices to brandy they had distilled. The word was later shortened to liqueur.

It is of course a tedious and painstaking process, and needs to be left for a few months before it is ready to drink, but it does make a very unique beverage to entertain family and friends with if you can go through the process.
