It's important to obviously focus on the rules, regulations and the application of them. You don't actually have to know rule numbers and know things word for word. You just need to be able to show that you get them. Most of the questions will be application questions. 'What would you do if...' 'How would you handle this situation?' It is stuff like this that they use to see if you understand what you're being asked.

Spelling should be another thing you study for the police exam. One thing that they don't tell you is that they're looking at your writing skills. Officers write a lot of reports and they have to be professionally done. Make sure you can spell common police diction like misdemeanor or habeas corpus. You're not going to have a spell checker available in the exam.
