The new Samsung S8500 Wave is a refreshing new touch screen handset from the manufacturer. Its key features include an advanced touch screen, a 5 mega pixel digital camera with excellent video recording features and the Bada Operating System.

The Samsung Wave boasts an impressive list of applications and features which are all provided as standard.  These range from the versatile internal media player which supports a good number of music file formats as well as an impressive number of video file formats.  A voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input are provided as standard for efficiency.  GPS with A-GPS support allowing number of applications to function such as a digital compass and geo-tagging.

The Samsung Wave is equipped with a digital camera boasting 5 mega pixels.  This operates at a reasonably high pixel resolution meaning the quality of the resulting images is very high and rivals that of many standalone digital cameras.  Autofocus, face, smile & blink detection and an LED flash are all provided in order to simplify the task of taking memorable snapshots even in low lighting conditions.  GPS allows the increasingly popular geo-tagging facility to function which automatically records the location at which a photo was taken.  The camera can of course shoot video and this is in 720p quality at a rate of 30 frames per second which is one of the highest resolutions of video footage available on a camera phone.

The handset measures just 118x 56x 10.9 mm making it pocket friendly and a pleasure to hold and use on the move especially given its light weight of just 118 g.  The appearance of the handset is typical of a Samsung touch screen phone, with the facia dominated by the touch screen with two touch sensitive buttons located below this which are finished in a tasteful silver trim to complement the charcoal colour scheme of the phone.

The Samsung Wave features an impressive 3.3 inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen which boasts the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 480x 800 pixels meaning the display of on screen imagery is of very high quality.  The screen features a number of impressive functions such as an accelerometer sensor, multi touch input method and handwriting recognition and is manufactured from scratch-resistant materials which protects it from everyday wear and tear.

Class 10 versions of both EDGE & GPRS provide the handset with its primary methods of connecting to cellular networks whilst access to the Internet relies on 3G coverage as well as Wi-Fi where available for an enhanced browsing experience.  Bluetooth and micro USB connections are provided as standard allowing users to connect the handset to other compatible hardware devices so they can carry out a number of tasks.

The Samsung Wave has only recently been released in the UK, but its popularity looks assured given the winning combination of appealing aesthetic and impressive functionality.
